Back in 2000, I was young and lived at my grandmother's house, There was a black lab, across the street named Ace. One night he slipped his collar and came over, I let him in and gave him snacks, watched tv with him, let my dog meet him. Grandpa came home, so I hastily let him out hoping he would go home, and he did. He did it again another time and I let him in for a second to hang out, and he wanted to go out, so I let him out, he went home later after sniffing around the block. So one time, I was having a sad hard day at work, and went to pet him at the end of his lead, he was out with a loose choke collar on the end of a cable tied to his dog house. He shook and it slipped over his ear half off his head. I pulled it off the rest of the way and said, "Wanna go watch tv while mom's at the bar?" (His owner would go out late and she'd stay at the bar all night in town, we see her bronco there all the time). So we did, we watched tv and hung out, I brought him back and hooked his head back in his choke collar. A few days later, he saw me outside and barked for me, wagging excitedly, so I said "you wanna come over?" And he play bowed, I brought him over. This time I let him go home on his own, which he did. Then thanks giving 2000, morning of, I was stressed and he wanted to come say hi. I let him off his lead, he followed me back to the house, we hung out and watched wizard of oz and the three stooges marathon, suddenly the garage door, grandparents came home. I let him out. No one ever saw him again. His mom drove the streets calling for him... He was gone. I cried. No one knows I was the one who let that old dog go... I moved to my own place literally the following week. Ace, was gone. Visiting my grandma, I'd always ask "did she find ace yet?" ... no. A year went by, they took his dog house down. It was there since I was a little kid. Ace was old, and my fault he was gone. I never told anyone, and having dogs myself... I can't imagine what pain I caused. I'm sorry
