1. What we collect
For your account to work, we need a few basics: your email address, your password (stored in a scrambled form that nobody, including us, can read back), your date of birth, your chosen username, and the IP address you signed up from.
As you use FrogsDen, we store the things you'd expect any social platform to store so your account works properly: your posts and comments, who you follow and block, the likes, shares, and dislikes you give (anonymously - see section 7), the reports you submit, your notification preferences, and the interests you pick during onboarding.
That's it. We don't collect anything you don't actively give us by using the product. No tracking cookies, no device fingerprinting, no browsing history, no location tracking, no selling your data to anyone.
2. Children's privacy
FrogsDen is not for anyone under 13. We collect your date of birth during signup solely to verify this. If we discover an account belongs to someone under 13, we will delete it and all associated data immediately.
3. What we don't do
We do not run device fingerprinting. We do not embed cross-site tracking. We do not load third-party analytics scripts.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or hand it to data brokers. We do not pass it to anyone outside FrogsDen unless we are legally compelled to.
4. Services that help FrogsDen work
A handful of other services handle specific jobs so FrogsDen can function:
Cloudflare hosts the platform and delivers pages to your browser. Stripe processes optional FrogsDen Supporter subscription payments on our website - we never see or store your card number. ZeptoMail sends transactional emails like verification codes and password resets. Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers push notifications to your device if you opt in. Klipy provides the GIF search. Google handles sign-in if you choose to log in with Google. Apple handles sign-in if you choose to log in with Apple.
Each of these services only receives the minimum data needed for its job. None of them are given access to your posts, messages, or social activity.
5. Analytics
We run basic anonymous analytics: page views, session counts, and feature usage. These are aggregated and stripped of identifying detail. They tell us whether the product is working, not who you are.
6. Image privacy
Every image you upload has its EXIF and GPS metadata stripped server-side before it is stored. Location, camera model, capture timestamps: none of it makes it into the file other people see.
7. Engagement privacy
Likes and shares are anonymous to the public: other users never see who liked or shared a post. The post author is the only exception - they can see who liked or shared their own posts, through their notifications.
Dislikes are fully anonymous. Nobody sees who disliked a post: not the post author, not other users, not even admins. Dislikes only affect what you see in your own feed (see the Quiet Fade mechanic).
8. Cookies
We use cookies only for authentication and core functionality. No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, no third-party cookies that follow you around the web.
9. Push notifications
If you enable push notifications, we store a device token provided by Firebase Cloud Messaging. This token lets us deliver notifications to your device. You can disable push notifications at any time from Settings > Notifications, and we will delete the stored token.
10. Payment information
Optional FrogsDen Supporter subscriptions are processed entirely by Stripe on our website. Your card details go directly to Stripe - they never pass through or are stored on FrogsDen servers. We only store whether you have an active subscription and when it started.
11. Your rights
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion is permanent. We hold a copy for 90 days for admin and legal review, then purge it.
You can export everything we have on you as a ZIP file. Requests are fulfilled within seven days.
If you're in a jurisdiction that grants you rights of access, correction, restriction, or portability (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and friends), those rights apply here too. Email support@frogsden.com to use them.
12. How we're allowed to process your data
We process your information on three legal grounds: to perform the contract you agreed to when you signed up (your account, posts, messages, and social features need your data to work), for our legitimate interest in keeping the platform safe and functional (security, abuse prevention, anonymous analytics), and with your consent where we ask for it (push notifications, optional profile information). You can withdraw consent for optional features at any time from Settings.
13. Data retention
Active accounts: we keep your data while your account exists.
Deleted accounts: we retain a copy for 90 days to handle admin recovery requests and legal obligations, then we purge it.
Backups: data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 35 days after deletion before rotating out.
14. Where your data is processed
FrogsDen runs on Cloudflare's global network, which means your data may be processed in data centres outside your home country. Cloudflare maintains appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
15. Security
Passwords are stored in a scrambled form - we cannot read them. All connections use HTTPS. Authentication tokens are stored in encrypted key-value storage. GPS and EXIF metadata is stripped from uploaded images before they are saved.
